Drugs For Bladder Spasticity



Both oxybutynin and tolterodine have long-acting formulations with different doses than are listed in this section.
 

Oxybutynin (Ditropan)

Oxybutynin is used to stop incontinence and bladder spasticity. Oxybutynin decreases bladder spasms by relaxing the muscles of the bladder.
 
Dosage
Oxybutynin is usually taken 4 times daily. Maximum dose is 20 mg/day.
 
Side effects
Common side effects of oxybutynin include dry mouth, blurred vision, a slight drowsiness and constipation. If you notice any other side effects, inform your doctor.

Tolterodine (Detrol)

Tolterodine is taken twice a day. The dosage is 4 mg.
 
Side effects
Dry mouth (less severe than oxybutynin)
