Employees as friends?
When you are looking for people who will make good attendants, be aware that many of the people you hire could become friends. It makes sense that you will become attached to people – after all, you spend a lot of time together.

Understandably, it can be difficult separating employer expectations from friendship and relationship expectations. However, you will need to be clear about employer/employee expectations if both of you are to remain happy with the working arrangement.

Your life is not for public discussion
When you are hiring attendants, just a reminder that you might want to emphasize how important confidentiality is to you. Your attendants will have close intimate details of your life. They need to know that information goes no further! They are there because you need them, not because you want them there.

Self-managed care
Each region manages their self-managed care program differently. You need to contact your local Homecare Coordinator regarding service allocation.
