Osteoporosis

 Osteoporosis
Maintaining bone health is important for everyone but for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI), it can be a real challenge. Studies show that people with SCI lose up to one-third of their bone density within a year of injury or onset of illness.

New approaches to daily challenges
You might think of osteoporosis as a disease of older people but it’s also a major concern for many people with spinal cord injuries. …Dr. Craven is leading the way with a new system for measuring bone mineral density. It targets the knee, which newer research shows is the most common place for fractures in people with spinal cord injuries.
